Applications are now being accepted for the annual Gerald Fortney Memorial Scholarship Award. This $2,000 award is presented in the honor of the memory of LANCO's founding CEO, Gerald Fortney.

To apply, please submit the following by April 1, 2010:

1. The completed Gerald Fortney Memorial Scholarship application. Application forms are available at any LANCO office or Print the Scholarship Application.
2. A statement written by the student outlining areas of service to the school and community.
3. Two written statements from classroom teachers supporting the nomination. These statements should indicate specific instances in which the student has demonstrated maturity, respect and a desire to achieve academic excellence.
4. Official high school transcript.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

1. Must be a LANCO member or the child of a LANCO member in good standing.
2. Must be a member of current graduating class.
3. Must have been accepted at an accredited institution and plan to earn a Bachelor's degree.
4. Must have demonstrated a mature and respectful attitude toward peers and teachers.
5. Must have demonstrated a willingness to be of service to his/her community.

Demonstrated financial need will also be considered.

• A committee comprised of LANCO Board of Directors will review the applications.
• Class rank, school records, community and school service and teacher recommendations will all be considered in determining the award recipient.
• Interviews will be conducted with the three finalists.
• Scholarship winner will be annnounced no later than June 30, 2010.
• The award will be made after the fall semester has begun.
