International Credit Union Day

On the third Thursday of October, credit unions worldwide celebrate the financial cooperative movement. This year, International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) celebrates its 70th anniversary with the theme Find Your Platinum Lining in Credit Unions™.

The Cooperative Spirit

There are many reasons to love and support the credit union movement at home and abroad. The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) believes all people should have access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable financial services. Championing the credit union and cooperative financial institution model, WOCCU has implemented nearly 300 assistance programs in 71 countries to build safe and sound financial cooperatives with affordable financial products and services. For example, WOCCU’s Cooperative Development Program has worked with credit unions in Guatemala, Mexico, and Kenya to improve small rural agricultural producers’ income through access to financial services and markets.
