Remembering Former Lanco Federal Credit Union CEO, Barbara Fortney

Lanco Federal Credit Union (FCU) is deeply saddened to acknowledge the passing of our former CEO, Barbara Fortney. Her journey with Lanco FCU dates back to 1967, when she was appointed to be on the Credit Committee. She later served as Assistant Treasurer before stepping into the role of Treasurer/Manager in 1984 following the passing of her husband, Lanco School Employees Federal Credit Union founding CEO Gerald “Jerry” Fortney. Under Barbara’s leadership, Lanco FCU experienced remarkable growth and transformation, including expanding membership to immediate family, introducing share draft (checking) accounts, launching mortgages and home equity loans, purchasing and moving into our Roseville Road location, and adopting key services like debit cards, online banking, and Saturday hours.

Barbara’s dedication and forward-thinking approach were instrumental in expanding access to financial services in Lancaster County and beyond. Many of the conveniences and opportunities our members enjoy today were initiated or advanced under her tenure.
